Ridgway Advance Rocket.... |
The stud lifted its main sale average by $137 to a cracking $1857 with a total clearance of 100 poll rams. It also had a strong mini auction averaging $725.
The buoyant sale followed Ridgway Advance's recent success with the champion two-tooth ram at the Karoonda field days.
The catalyst for sale success was the willingness of commercial buyers to spend more than $1500 for David & Karen Ridgway's heavy framed rams with elite white wools. But it was Pepperwell at Keyneton who paid the $4400 top price for one of the sale's youngest rams.
The August 2010 drop Poll Merino was sired by G 123, a sire with high growth and muscle that Ridgway Advance has successfully used to boost carcass traits. The square- bodied, balanced young ram had exceptional wool quality and growth.
There were 57 registered bidders from a wide spread of geographical environments ranging from the high rainfall areas in western Victoria to the Mallee and as far a field as Wentworth in the western division of New South Wales.
The new concept of penning some of the mini auction rams singularly also kept the sale flowing with these 22 including good quality balanced merino rams. Buyers were impressive with the even line up of the Ridgway Advance 200 sale Rams.
Ridgway Advance stud principal, David Ridgway said they were pleased with the solid result and happy to be able to offer quality affordable rams for all budgets with a fifth of the main auction sale rams selling for $1200 or less.
'The maximum price for most of the sale was $2500 but it was consistent right through so our clients were happy' he said
David said it was pleasing to see their rams going into different kinds of environments.
This was Ridgway Advance's largest sale-day clearance since its exceptional 2008 sale.
Landmark stud stock manager, Malcolm Scroop, who officiated the bidding with Gordon Wood, said the sale's success was the solid breeding values Ridgway Advance stood for.
