Advance Stud Ewes Winners |
Due to the success of the Ridgway Advance breeding program the stud flock is very even in type and culling rates have decreased to very low levels enabling David and Karen Ridgway to offer their complete drop of 4.5 year old ewes.
Stud principal David Ridgway said the ewes in the main auction pens were among those which had bred Ridgway Advance's sale rams with the top 150 rams averaging $2000 for the past few years.
The concept was well received with 80 of 100 2006 drop, late July shorn ewes in the main auction - penned the same way as Ridgway Advance's sale rams - averaging $288 and selling to a top of $525. (remaining ewes selling quickly after sale)
The top priced ewe was a daughter of RA 559 who had a wool measurements of 19.4 micron with a standard deviation of 3.0, coefficient of variation of 15.5 and a comfort factore of 99.6 %.
Landmark's Auctioneer, Gordon Wood said buyers were given a rare opportunity to purchase elite top end ewes featuring tremendous genetics.
"Although it was a new concept the sale really went well and the sheep had great fibre, great-skin ewes" he said.
Due to the Stud's MN 3 Status David & Karen Ridgway have always sold their ewes on property and due to the success of the sale will now decide whether to hold the ewe auction on an annual or biennial basis.
